Ski and holiday area Gitschberg Jochtal the family area
The ski and holiday area Gitschberg Jochtal is just outside the door. Situated between 1400 m and 2500 m it is a resort where everybody enjoys himself. There are modern artificial snow machines, which guarantee a skiing season from the beginning of September until Easter. Directly in Maranza there are two hillsides with ski lifts for children and beginners. The cable car Nesselalm takes 15 minutes to get you to the Gitschberg where you can enjoy 21 km of slopes. But what would a skiing day be without an après- ski? There are two après-skies: one is the Schupfe, close to the cable car’s valley station, and the other one is the Igloo. A lot of music, hot spiced wine and the fantastic atmosphere should not be missed.

Have fun sledging with your family
…in the middle of nature or on the artificial run. In Maranza everything is possible!
Starting from the Moser hut in Maranza there is a great natural run. The hut is easily reachable in an hour. The walk towards the hut will already be a fantastic adventure and the sledging will be the perfect price for the efforts of the walk. On the Kiener alp children can enjoy themselves on a small sledging run while their parents can enjoy a typical South Tyrolean meal.
If there is not much snow that does not mean that you cannot go sledging anyway. There is an artificial ice toboggan run where international athletes practice and where you can compete with your friends. On the 300 m long run there are also weekly races. Don’t waste any time!
Winter hikes with snowshoes A special adventure
Woods covered with snow, mysterious traces and snow-covered huts: you will encounter all of these things during your snowshoeing trip in the ski and holiday area Gitschberg Jochtal. Snowshoeing is a very easy sport which guarantees the most beautiful views. We recommend trying the climb to the Astjoch. To do so drive to the parking Zumis on the alpe di Rodengo, follow the forest road to the Astjoch at 2164 m height and enjoy the wonderful view over the valley of Pusteria and the Dolomites. On your way you will find many huts where you can enjoy South Tyrolean specialties.
