Mountain bike Holidays
at the Sonnenhof
A unique experience
in the bike paradise Gitschberg-Val Giovo
The Pension Sonnenhof in the sunny holiday village of Maranza offers the perfect location for a varied mountain bike holiday in South Tyrol. The ski and alpine region Gitschberg Val Giovo is a fantastic hiking and mountain biking area in the immediate vicinity of your accommodation. Stony single trails lead up to the alpine peaks and gentle, family-friendly bicycle paths with few climbs lead across the sunny alpine plateau of Maranza. Junior host Christian is an enthusiastic biker and will be happy to help you plan your tour. He has quite a few insider tips to offer that will take you along marvellous routes to fantastic viewpoints. The cable cars Gitschberg and Val Giovo are consistently included in the tour planning and as an Almencard holder, you may use them free of charge.
The Maranza plateau offers a series of exciting mountain bike tours that require endurance, fitness, and willpower. To begin with, we recommend a short circular tour that takes you from Maranza to the alpine lodge Moserhütte and back again. The entire itinerary is nine kilometres long and overcomes an altitude difference of around 470 meters. After an hour you will arrive back at your holiday village. The Valles Valley Alpine Hut Tour is more demanding and will take around three hours. You will climb around 1,000 metres in altitude and quaint alpine huts invite you to take a break in front of a splendid mountain backdrop. Fitness and stamina are required on the Maranza-Valles-Spinga mountain bike tour. After a short downhill ride, the climb to an altitude of 1,800 meters begins. The return route leads via Valles and Spinga back to Maranza.
Below Maranza, the Isarco Valley and the Pusteria Valley meet and in the valley floor, marvellous bike trails run along the rivers. The Pusteria Valley Bike Path and the Isarco Valley Bike Path are mostly even with just a few climbs. The cross-border Pusteria Bike Path leads to the city of Lienz on the Austrian side. In the opposite direction, another bike trail leads you to the South Tyrolean episcopal city of Bressanone. The starting point in the valley is the village of Rio di Pusteria. The mountain bike tour from Rio di Pusteria to Riscone is particularly suitable for a leisurely family outing and takes around four hours, including breaks. You may return to the starting point comfortably (and leisurely) by train.
